Topic: Writing in Content Subjects

Question: Which led to greatest learning in content subjects? Note taking? Study questions? Or essay writing?

Answer: Essay writing. “Essay writing enabled the students to integrate elements of the prose passages into their knowledge of the topic.” “It was this issue of learning from writing that the study explored.” “…with note taking and answering study questions information in the prose passages remained isolated and detached.”

Comment: It makes sense that the student’s writing the essay integrated information into the mind. But how many content teachers want to take the time to read those essays? RayS.
