Question: What is the
cost of remediation for students accepted into college but requiring
remediation services?
Answer/Quote: “Disjuncture
between secondary and postsecondary writing proficiency expectations results in
remediation for many first-year students admitted to community colleges,
colleges, and universities….. The cost associated with the remediation is
staggering. Michigan researchers estimate a cost of $601 million for that
state…, and the College Board has recently estimated that $17 billion is spent
annually on remediation each year….” P. 285.
Comment: Not to mentions disruption in the students’
college careers, extending them to five years or more. RayS.
